Greetings and welcome to the web site of VFW Piney Woods Post 4816 in Porter Tx. July 1st starts the VFW new year and we have had a great start. The Veterans, Lady’s Auxiliary, and Team VFW are all working together to not only meet VFW goals but exceed those goals. A meeting was held at the post to go over our Post Action Plan. The following are some of our mandated goals:
- Community service projects (20)
- Americanism projects (9)
- Youth projects (6)
- Department Military Assistance Program
- “Texas House” of the VFW National Home for Children
- VFW Voice of Democracy Program
- VFW Patriots Pen
- VFW Citizenship Teacher of the Year
- VFW Public Safety Gold Medal
- JROTC or CAP award
The most important issue facing the VFW is membership. We must retain continuous members, reinstate former members, and recruit new members. The 2008 – 2009 membership quota is 246. Many of these members are not active at the Post. We’ve had a good start sighing up new members, but we must do better.
We will be trying some new things at the Post this year. The last 7 words of a dying orginazation are “we’ve never done it that why before.” The VFW must continue to update itself or we will slowly fade away. I was elected as the Commander, not the Supreme Commander. I need your help and input. We will all work together or things will not work at all.
