We Welcome you to Piney Woods VFW Post 4816 located in Porter, Texas. As you may be aware, VFW Posts throughout the free world are established by and for veterans of foreign wars of the United States. A common misconception, however, is that ONLY veterans and members of a Post may attend the functions of the Post. We want to dispel that notion and let you know that you are cordially invited to our Post to join in the many activities throughout the year. We invite you, our neighbors, to come by and be our Guest. We'll do our very best to make you feel welcome in our Post home.
Remember, whether you are a veteran or not, YOU are welcome to join in the fun and activities of our Post. We hope to see you here soon. Check out our Post Events page and see what we have to offer.
Piney Woods Post 4816 was chartered in May of 1967. Andrew (Andy) Walker was installed as the very first Post Commander. In the fall of 1968 and under the outstanding leadership of Andy, we were able to purchase the property behind our Post. You can still see the original foundation of the (goat) shed and the additions that were made since.
Under the great leadership of Bill Burke we built the metallic building which serves as our Bingo Hall, and which was completed in 1976. At that time Andy was the Porter area supervisor for Home Telephone Company. He installed our phone lines and was able to obtain the last four digits of 9976 to remind us of the year we completed the building.
Since that time our Post has grown not only in the buildings but in membership, friends and stature as well. So stop by and become one of the family.
